Ordure…ordure

So entertaining that a raid on Parliament has coincided with the fantastic civil war drama The Devil’s Whore. Just in case no one has pointed this out yet – 350 years ago when Charles I wanted to arrest members of the House of Comons he was told by the Speaker William Lenthall, “May it please your Majesty, I have neither eyes to see nor tongue to speak in this place but as the House is pleased to direct me, whose servant I am here.”
Cut to 21st century Labour’s Britain and instead we have Michael Martin ushering anti-terror police into Damian Green’s office for essentially being guilty of doing his job as shadow immigration minister.
As much as we are going to miss Martin’s wet blanket remonstrations of “order…order” he has effectively suborned the independence of Britain’ legislature on the most trivial of charges (compared to Lenthall standing up to the King and 400 of his soldiers) and he has to go.
